Alzheimer Disease
Research Study
Age 50-88
1. Investigational study medication is an i.v. infusion every 13 weeks that causes development of antibodies to amyloid plaques of Alzheimer disease.
2. Study compares three doses of study medication with placebo (inactive substance), so that there is a 3 out of 5 chances to receive an active medication.
3. Subjects are allowed to continue on their current Alzheimer medication. As the study medication is an i.v. infusion, no additional pills are to be taken.
4. There are 15 study visits at the research center in Lafayette over a year and a half.
5. Each visit at the research site takes approximately 3-4 hours as we will be doing cognitive testing.
6. There are 6 intravenous infusions at an infusion center in Walnut Creek. First two infusions will take about 6 hours each. The other four infusions will take about 4 hours each.
7. There are 7 MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans of the brain at an imaging facility in Walnut Creek, which will take about 2 hours each.
8. There are blood draws and ECGs at some visits.
9. All study related procedures, tests, and evaluations are provided to study participants at no cost.
10.Compensation for time and travel per each completed visit at the research site (visits for infusions and MRIs do not provide compensation) is $50.00 for the patient and $50.00 for a caregiver.
