Bay Area Research Institute (located in Lafayette, CA) is an independent clinical research facility located in the San Francisco Bay Area.  We conduct clinical trials to evaluate the effects of new and investigational medications.  Our goal is to help develop safer and more effective treatment for medical and psychiatric disorders.  Our staff of dedicated, full-timeresearchers have continually strived to blend the best medical care for patients with state-of-the-art clinical research.

Bay Area Research Institute (BARI) has conducted numerous clinical trials since becoming a research center in 1997, and our Principal Investigator, Kathleen Toups, MD, CCTI (Certified Clinical Trials Investigator), has been involved with clinical research since 1990.  Studies at BARI have primarily emphasized new treatments for psychiatric disorders like ADHD in adults and children, Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Dementia, Depression, Eating Disorders, and Schizophrenia, along with medical trials for influenza, insomnia, narcolepsy, osteoporosis, sleep apnea, and sexual disorders.  In addition, as Dr. Toups is a Board-Certified Geriatric Psychiatrist, BARI also conducts clinical trials in Alzheimer’s Disease and MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment).

Our staff has continuously endeavored to bring opportunities for patients to participate in cutting-edge investigational treatment studies.  BARI has been involved with many pivotal studies that led to the approval and launch of new medications for better treatment options.  Subjects participating in clinical trials at BARI are generally very pleased with the detailed diagnostic evaluations, education, and close attention they receive.  All study-related procedures and medications are provided at no cost to qualified participants.
